A Swiss film startup, FinFilm, has joined forces with Sky to co-finance the family adventure film "Robin and the Hoods."
This innovative platform is focused on supporting film projects across Europe and Africa, and is stepping in as a gap lender for this exciting new project.
The film, directed by Phil Hawkins, brings a contemporary twist to the classic legend of Robin Hood.
Starring alongside Naomi Harris, who plays the role of a greedy developer, are Gwendoline Christie from "Game of Thrones," Mark Williams known from the "Harry Potter" series, and Darcey Ewart, who portrays the young Robin.
Set in a suburban neighborhood, the story unfolds as Robin and her group of friends, dubbed the "Hoods," band together to protect their enchanted overgrown area from the sinister developer’s plans.
The production is led by Claudia Bluemhuber, managing partner at Silver Reel in Zurich, and Matt Williams from Future Artists Entertainment based in London.“We are thrilled to have collaborated with seasoned producers Claudia Bluemhuber and Matt Williams on this project,” stated Michel Morales, co-founder and managing director of FinFilm.
“The support we received from the FinFilm team was outstanding,” Bluemhuber remarked. “We look forward to partnering with them on future endeavors.”
Enrico Fadani, co-founder and CEO of FinFilm, is set to address the complexities of financing film projects in Africa during the inaugural AfroBerlin industry showcase at the European Film Market on February 17, coinciding with the Berlinale.
AfroBerlin is designed to foster connections among filmmakers, businesses, and influential figures within the African film sector.
Currently, FinFilm is involved in financing various productions across Zambia and Mauritius.
Fadani noted, “The film industry is rapidly evolving in numerous African nations, alongside the well-established sector in South Africa. Our challenge lies in providing support to productions amidst an unpredictable landscape, enabling emerging filmmakers to showcase their work on a global stage.”
With additional offices in Munich and Rome, FinFilm will also facilitate a specialized gap financing panel at the European Film Market on February 18. This session, held at the EFM conference lounge in Gropius Park, will delve into the significance of gap financing in a dynamic market that continues to pose challenges for producers.
Joining Fadani on the panel are Bluemhuber from Silver Reel, Phil Hunt from Head Gear Films in London, Timo Argillander from Helsinki’s IPR.VC Management, with media attorney Ralph Oliver Graef moderating the discussion.
