An online sports footwear and apparel platform, dunk.net, was initiated this year by basketball legend Shaquille O’Neal and his business partner Leonard Armato.

However, the site is now facing legal challenges from its web designer, DNA Studio, which has filed a lawsuit for an outstanding amount of $332,000.

The legal action was initiated in early October at the Santa Monica branch of the Los Angeles Superior Court.

According to DNA Studio, they were responsible for the development of the dunk.net website but have yet to receive payment for their services.

Allen Grodsky, the attorney representing DNA, stated, “This is a straightforward case. We rendered our services and have not been compensated. We seek payment.”

As of now, dunk.net has not commented on the lawsuit, but they are required to respond by mid-November.

Grodsky noted that dunk.net has previously paid around $100,000 of the original amount owed, yet has disregarded invoices totaling $331,749 since June.

In recent years, DNA Studio has established a reputable presence in Hollywood, securing contracts to design official websites for major film studios, including the highly sought-after Warner Bros. site for “Harry Potter and the Sorcerer’s Stone.”

The lawsuit coincides with O’Neal's recent appearances at various internet conferences, such as Digital Coast 2000, where he has been promoting dunk.net and his upcoming ventures online.

Dunk.net made its debut in May with significant publicity and has since partnered with notable athletes like Mike Piazza, Rebecca Lobo, and Delisha Milton.

Investors backing the site include CBS SportsLine and Technology Crossover Ventures based in Palo Alto.
